Pregnancy is an exciting time, but changes to the body can also cause tiredness, muscle tension and discomfort. Pregnancy massage, also known as prenatal massage, is a gentle treatment designed specifically for expectant mothers.

Is Pregnancy Massage Safe?

For most women with a healthy pregnancy, prenatal massage can be a safe and relaxing experience when performed by a suitably trained therapist. At SanSuk Sanctuary, pregnancy massage is available after the first trimester.

Before booking, we recommend speaking with your doctor or midwife, particularly if you have a high-risk pregnancy, pregnancy complications or any health concerns.

What Are the Benefits?

Pregnancy massage may help to:

Ease tension in the back, shoulders, hips and legs
Encourage relaxation and reduce stress
Relieve tired and aching muscles
Improve general comfort and wellbeing
Support better rest and sleep

Every pregnancy is different, so your therapist will discuss your needs and adjust the treatment accordingly.

What Happens During the Treatment?

Your comfort and safety are always the priority. Supportive pillows and cushions may be used to help you rest comfortably, usually in a side-lying or supported position.

The massage will use gentle, carefully adapted techniques. Please tell your therapist immediately if you feel uncomfortable or would like the pressure or position changed.

When Should You Avoid Massage?

Please postpone your treatment and seek medical advice if you are experiencing symptoms such as bleeding, severe pain, dizziness, fever or unusual swelling.

You should also tell your therapist about any medical conditions, pregnancy complications, recent hospital treatment or medication before your appointment.
